English 9

Titanic Unit

We read A Night to Remember, which is about the sinking of the Titanic.  Our discussions focused on the chapter summaries students wrote as well as quotes they found.  In addition to this, students wrote  "postcards" from the Titanic  and created a presentation on one of the passengers. The written part of their final exam will be an outline and essay on A Night to Remember.

Narnia Unit

After reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, students were asked to create their own Cair Paravel.  Some made floor plans, some drew pictures, and others made their castles in Minecraft.  Here is drawing, a Minecraft video, and a floor plan of Cair Paravel.

Student also The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  They related it to the Bible and to Jesus.

Here are the directions as well as student work.

Unit 1

"The Most Dangerous Game"

After reading and discussing "The Most Dangerous Game,"
students drew maps of the island. This helped them to picture the setting
and to review the events of the story.

General Zaroff lived in a palatial château.
This map puts it in the center of the island.

This map has a key.  Knowing the plot points
is key to understanding the story.

Interactive Choice Stories

Students made plans for their choice stories by brainstorming and making flow charts using LucidChart.
Then they created their stories either in Google Slides or Twine.  Here is an example created in Google Slides.
